Multilingual AI
Exploring AI systems that can work across India's diverse languages, rather than assuming that everyone communicates in English.
Area of interestExploring how AI can better understand the way people communicate across languages, scripts, and cultures.

One conversation. Multiple languages.01 / AREAS OF EXPLORATION
Our initial interests sit at the intersection of language technology, informal communication, and multilingual AI.
Exploring AI systems that can work across India's diverse languages, rather than assuming that everyone communicates in English.
Area of interestInvestigating language understanding when people naturally mix English and Indic languages within the same sentence or conversation.
Initial focusExploring how AI can handle Indic languages written in Latin script, including informal spellings and everyday transliteration.
Area of interest02 / OUR APPROACH
Real-world language is messy. People switch between languages, use regional expressions, write words phonetically, and vary their spelling from one message to the next.
We are interested in understanding these variations through language data, model evaluation, and experimentation with multilingual AI techniques.
Explore how multilingual and code-mixed text can be represented and evaluated.
Investigate model behavior across language combinations, scripts, and spelling variants.
Work toward useful AI applications that reflect how multilingual communities communicate.
03 / ABOUT BHASHA LABS
Bhasha Labs is an independent, early-stage technology initiative exploring practical AI for India's multilingual environment.
We are beginning with code-mixed language understanding and Romanized Indic text, with a broader interest in making AI more useful across languages and communication styles.
Our current work is exploratory. We aim to develop this direction through research, experimentation, and iterative prototyping.
04 / GET IN TOUCH
We welcome conversations with researchers, developers, and others interested in language technology.
